Crap for the CV - 'failed at suicide bombing'

Halal food, a prayer mat and the prospect of a slow build-up of pressure to talk - this is the fate of suspected failed bomber Yasin Hassan Omar.

The 24-year-old was overpowered by a police stun gun during a dawn raid in Birmingham six days after he was suspected of trying to bomb a Victoria Line tube near Warren Street.

What a failure! Couldn't even blow himself up using a rucksack filled with explosives. Tsk, tsk. Wonder how that will read on his CV? 'Failed at suicide bombing'. Good at running.

Executed ~ man in subway murdered by police

LONDON (AP) - The man shot and killed on a subway car by London police in front of horrified commuters apparently had nothing to do with this month's bombings on the city's transit system, police said Saturday in expressing their ``regrets.''

A day earlier, the police commissioner said the man was ``directly linked'' to Thursday's attacks, in which bombs on three subway trains and a bus failed to detonate properly. No one was injured.

``For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets,'' a police spokesman said on customary condition of anonymity.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was shot Friday at a subway station in the south London neighborhood of Stockwell. Witnesses said the man appeared to be South Asian and was wearing a heavy padded coat when police chased him into a subway car, pinned him to the ground and shot him in the head and torso."

The man died after being shot by officers at the Stockwell subway station in south London, police said.

Passengers said a man, described as South Asian, ran onto a train at Stockwell station in south London. Witnesses said police chased him, he tripped, and police then shot him.

"They pushed him onto the floor and unloaded five shots into him. He's dead," witness Mark Whitby told the British Broadcasting Corp. "He looked like a cornered fox. He looked petrified."

Whitby said the man did not appear to have been carrying anything but said he was wearing a thick coat that looked padded.

Aha! So he was wearing a thick coat that looked padded! Thank goodness the bastard was shot! He deserved it all right.

Even though he tripped, fell and had two plain clothes police officers kneeling on him when a third one emptied 5 shots from a Nine millimeter pistol into his head, it was the right thing to do because he had a padded jacket on and could have had his jacket set to display the liner if he clicked his teeth.

Jolly good show!

I'm melting

Ha! Fooled you, didn't I?

I haven't been lazy at all. I've been gradually melting away like the Wicked Witch of the North when Dorothy throws a bucket of water on her. And what's up with that, anyway? Fairy Queens (different meaning these days, huh?), little Oompa Loompa thingies (being topical since Johnny Depp is currently prancing about as Mr Wonka), and those monkey soldiers (shudder) and all it takes to wipe out the scourge of Oz is a bucket of water?! wtf?!

What happened when it rained for goodness sake?! Didn't anyone notice the shrinkage? They would've if it had been a guy at the swimming pool!

Anyway, back to the melting. It's hot! Damn hot! The tourists are still wandering about with pullovers and a shiver but here in Scotland, anything above 10 degrees C is considered very mild to warm by the natives and whenever the temperature gauge reaches the lofty peaks of the low twenties (C), it is considered 'boiling hot'. And we are now in the throes of a relentless heatwave. It's been at least 4 days in a row now.

How long can this go on?

Homolka's show of remorse empty: families' lawyer

Karla Homolka's show of remorse was a masterful turn by a psychopath who has no concept of the pain and suffering she's caused, say family members of her young victims.

'She speaks of remorse, but never once in all of these years has Karla Homolka ever written to the families, ever expressed any remorse, any regret, ever apologized,' says lawyer Tim Danson, speaking on behalf of the families.

Homolka's Timeline of evil

For anyone who doesn't know, this is the woman who helped her then boyfriend, drug, rape and sodomise her own 15 year-old sister before going on to help him stalk, rape and murder two more teenage girls

Hitmen killed Israeli - things to do with a pillow

An Israeli drug dealer with a gambling problem, who was found dead in a London hotel in March, was murdered by two hitmen, the Old Bailey has heard.

Michael Antoneli and Andrei Melnikov allegedly lured Simon Turkov to the Marriott Hotel in Marble Arch before smothering him with a pillow.

Often the way prisoners find themselves dead from 'natural causes' or 'suicide by hanging'. Wrapped in a blanket to stop any bruises occuring from lashing out and smothered by a pillow or someone holding the chest (padded with a pillow so there are no marks). The 'hanging' part is easy once the person loses consciousness.

Ian Turner Update

He changed hotel due to the air conditioning system that was keeping him awake and he wanted a good night sleep after the conference and pub con before his flight home. He booked into the Monaco Hotel a few blocks away from the Park Plaza on the Saturday. Unfortunately this hotel wasn’t much better so he didn’t get his good night sleep as planned. He arrived at the airport drained from the conference week and the lack of sleep.

To make matters worse the flight was delayed to Atlanta meaning that he would miss the connection to the UK, plus the weather was bad. The flight to Atlanta was apparently very turbulent and Ian is a bad flyer and afraid of heights at the best of times.

This culmination of circumstances made Ian have, what can only be described as, a panic attack on the plane as it landed in Atlanta. The actual details here are quite vague and Ian is unsure of the whole events.

What did happen though was that he left his personal belongings on the plane (passport, wallet, laptop, coat) so subsequently he was arrested by the local police inside/outside the airport. Subsequent to this and the fact he had no ID on him he was detained in the local jail.

It has taken the past few days for the local police to sort this out with Homeland Security and the British Consolate and having no ID on him was a big problem. But as soon as he was traced to the jail and his identity was proved, we were able to get funds to him (thanks to Keith) which enabled the passport to be sorted for Ian.

He is currently at the airport hotel awaiting a flight home and has got some of his personal belongings back.

Ugliest man in the world?

A man accused of murder in the fatal shooting of a teenage girl who refused his requests for a kiss pleaded guilty Wednesday to the lesser charge of aggravated manslaughter.

Alfred R. Bishop, 21, admitted playing with a gun and cocking the weapon's hammer while pointing it at Elisa Hernandez, knowing she would probably be killed if it went off.

Police said Hernandez, a high school sophomore who knew Bishop only in passing from her neighborhood, encountered him March 29 while visiting friends in an apartment.

After some conversation, Bishop tried to get Hernandez to kiss him. She said no.

Bishop then pulled the gun, put it to her head and again demanded a kiss. According to witnesses, she said no and pushed the weapon away twice before Bishop shot her through the eye.

A candidate for ugliest man in the world, I'd wager:
"Kiss me or I shoot you"
"No!"

Toilet fed

It may take a strong stomach to eat curry or chocolate ice cream out of a toilet bowl, but a commode-themed restaurant in Taiwan does booming business serving up just that.

The Martun, or toilet in Chinese, restaurant in the southern port city of Kaohsiung boasts lengthy queues on weekends as diners wait for a toilet seat in its brightly colored tile interior.

Food arrives in bowls shaped like Western-style toilets or Asian-style "squat pots."

Manager Hung Lin-wen said the original inspiration came from a toilet-shaped spaceship in a Japanese cartoon. The theme has attracted droves of novelty-seeking young people who come to play with their food and gross out their friends.

"We think the theme is special, and the food is tasty," Hung said.

But no matter how delicious, a few customers still find the combination a little hard to swallow.

"The taste is good, but I still feel disgusted when I look at it," said diner Lin Yu-may.
